Loved the Ellis Island theme. It was really powerful to see the emotion and feeling that you put into it. Thanks for sharing your past with us.

Mary - I just wanted to say again that I thought your multigenre project turned out great! Like I said...this was a lot of work, but it turned out to be valuable on both a personal level, and in terms of what we learned and what can be done with it in the classroom. Of course, I felt a connection to your project...that Norwegian kindred spirit.... :-) I have always had such a strong connection with my heritage... It made me even more proud learning all that I did about the Norwegian sailors and what they went through in WWII as well... anyway it was wonderful hearing about your family and their journey... kudos...great job!

I think it is great that you give ideas to your teachers. We would love to see some of the poems if you get a chance.

Yay Mary! I have smiled every time I return to your blog and read this comment! What did you decide about your MG project? Are you going with Ellis Island? See you soon!

Mary I think that your concrete poem is really neat. I really like the way that you used the Is for your eyes. Very creative!

Mary your invition is so creative and inviting. I had never really thought about writing in that way, but it makes a lot of sense. I really like how you incorporate the senses into the writing as well. I also like that your students get to fill in the skeleton with statements and words about themselves. Neato!

HI Mary! You are so creative. I learned a lot about the Mississippi by reading your poem. I like how it "flows" like a river. Wonderful Work!

Yes, but think of all the teachers and children you are directly impacting...now! What topics are you thinking about? It is so exciting for you to take these approaches and strategies back to your school! YOU are still working with children-highly commendable! Thanks Mary!
